Mihir Desai’s Masoom sets a tone for intrigue and suspense. From the background music to the misty hues of Punjab, the plot keeps you drawn.

Set in a small town in Punjab, with the characters speaking a mix of Punjabi and Hindi, the show is a remake of a British show, Blood, and is out on Disney plus Hotstar. It explores the life of a doctor, Boman Irani, and his family. He runs a nursing home and his wife Gunwant is bedridden. Inspite of all odds, she is the pivot of the family. The son, Sanjeev, is gay, and plans to run away with his partner to another country. The elder daughter, Sanjana, is separated from her husband and the youngest sibling, Sana, is deeply antagonistic towards her father.

Masoom really stands out for Irani’s compelling performance as a man deeply troubled due to his inability to ease his wife’s agony. Besides this, he is hugely in debt. His performance is remarkable. Equally good with comedies as well as his grey roles, as in Jolly LLB and 3 Idiots, among many others, Irani has performed this role with ease.

The first two episodes of Masoom set the premise for a suspenseful ride that will keep the audience glued. Written by Satyam Tripathy and directed by Mihir Desai, the series playfully dances around the details and bits of information that piece together the mystery of Balwant Kapoor’s death. It is a well-rounded family drama and thriller. An overbearing father battling ominous secrets definitely glues the audience. The constant conflict with his daughter adds to the drama.

Need I say more, just watch it!!!
