The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, was released on March 11 and quickly became a worldwide movie office hit. The film stars Anupam Kher, Pallavi Joshi, and Darshan Kumar, and is based on the great flight of Kashmiri Hindus from the Valley in the 1990s. Following that, on May 13, it debuted on ZEE5 and set new records there as well.

In addition to directing the picture, Vivek Agnihotri also wrote the screenplay. The Kashmir Files also garnered strong support from the governing government, with Haryana, Gujarat, Karnataka, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, and Tripura declaring it tax-free. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, in particular, have been outspoken in their support for the film.

The film surpassed the 9 million viewership threshold on ZEE5 in its first week after establishing itself as a hit. It debuted in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada and had the most views (6 million) and streaming minutes (220 million) during its first weekend.

“I hope that with ZEE5’s worldwide reach, more people discover and watch it,” Agnihotri remarked of the film’s phenomenal success. Along with the amazing box office results, the crew was commended for releasing the film in Indian Sign Language.

With this, ZEE5 became the first OTT platform to release a Bollywood commercial film for the hearing impaired, breaking a world record.

In keeping with ZEE5’s “inclusive approach,” the producers held a special screening in Mumbai for roughly 500 deaf persons.

The picture blazed at the box office for a long time before dominating the OTT sector. Because of its successful theatrical run, the film’s digital launch had to be postponed.

During the COVID-19 epidemic, the film made history by becoming the first Hindi film to gross more over Rs. 250 crores (domestic).

It has now amassed a total of Rs. 337.23 crores throughout the world!
