Due to an accident on set that resulted in the death of a horse, the makers of the historical drama ‘The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won’ have stopped the transmission of the series for about two weeks.

The filmmakers were charged with animal cruelty earlier this week after reportedly ‘abusing and wounding’ a horse during the shoot. KBS determined that the horse died as a result of injuries after a thorough examination.

The sequence in question entailed the horse’s legs being tied together with wire to make a dramatic fall.

According to a KBS spokesman, the broadcasting channel chose to suspend the drama’s transmission owing to the criticism surrounding the show. As a result, episodes 13 and 14, which were supposed to run on January 22 and 23, have been cancelled.

A two-part special focused on ‘The King of Tears, Lee Bang Won’ was also set to air over the Lunar New Year holidays on January 29-30, but it has been cancelled as well.

Meanwhile, internet users and over 90 animal rights organizations have teamed together to demand that the historical series be cancelled and that KBS be sued for animal maltreatment.
