Britney Spears has been fighting for a long time to end her conservatorship, which is lifted by her father, Jamie Spears. And now, finally, the triumphant day has arrived for the singer, as her father has agreed to be removed as his daughter’s conservator. Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said in a statement on Thursday, “We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have today conceded in a filing that he is innocent.”
James Spears submitted legal papers declaring that, despite the lack of reasons for his dismissal, he choose to resign, according to celebrity website TMZ. After months of public and legal battles between his daughter and her new attorney this decision has finally arrived. As per the records the statement states, he is “the unremitting target of unjustified attacks” and that “he does not believe that a public battle with his daughter over his ongoing service as her conservator would be in her best interests.”
Jamie’s legal team stated that he will step aside because he does not want to get into a fight with Britney, Jamie’s own daughter. There are no actual grounds for suspending or dismissing Mr. Spears, according to E! News, but he will stand aside “when the time is right” to avoid a fight with Britney.
Jamie Spears has been the pop singer’s conservator since 2008, and he had the complete control over his personal and financial matters since then. In 2019, he stepped down as her conservator, but he still had power over her finances. Britney testified in front of the court in June and July, describing her conservatorship as “abusive.”
In June, Britney claimed that she was compelled to use an intrauterine device for birth control, take medications against her will, and was forbidden from marrying or having another child. Further she said she was not even allowed to ride in her boyfriend’s vehicle unsupervised. Jamie in his Thursday plea has continuously denied any mishandling of his daughter’s estate, and has insisted that he has always acted in her best interests.
