Money Heist Korea’s opening scene has drawn viewers’ attention. No, it wasn’t only because viewers were eager to visit the world of the Professor and his robbery crew again. Fans are also happy that the Netflix adaptation of the well-known Spanish drama came to an end thanks to the band BTS.
Major characters from the previous Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area returned, including Tokyo. She is a student at North Korea’s Kim Il-sung University this time, not a getaway petty thief. She is also an army! In the opening sequence of the programme, Lee Hong-dan aka Tokyo (Jeon Jong-seo) is dancing while descending down the stairs while listening to the lyrics of the BTS song DNA on her headphones.
The lines, “Don’t look back, since we found our destiny,” serve as the ideal introduction to what lies in store for Tokyo and the series going forward. Like the traditional calm before the storm, the film’s creators use a BTS song to introduce a North Korean character and indicate that, despite the peninsula’s possible division, it is still bound together by music and the boy band.
Tokyo introduces herself in the voice-over. “Army” refers to a K-pop group’s following. They have members from every continent. Of course, North Korea has an army as well. For me, it came naturally. I’ve always listened to K-pop and watched K-dramas since I was a little child.
Tokyo seems like a regular adolescent, hiding her rebellious side and the fact that she is in the Army, from the college steps to her carefree dancing in her bedroom.
Since they observed BTS having an influence on Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, BTS fans and the ARMY have not been able to remain calm. Social media is inundated with their responses and videos.
