As winter approaches, joy fills the air, igniting a strong urge to travel and indulge in our favourite seasonal delicacies. To satisfy these winter cravings, &TV artists spill the beans on their favourite winter snacks. These include artists such as Ashutosh Kulkarni (Krishan Bihari Vajpayee, Atal), Yogesh Tripathi (Daroga Happu Singh, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), and Shubhangi Atre (Angoori Bhabi, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai). Ashutosh Kulkarni, aka Krishan Bihari Vajpayee from Atal, shares, “Embracing the enchantment of Pune or Mumbai, the winter season never fails to ignite a spark of excitement within me. The winter season never fails to kindle a sense of exhilaration within me. The entire region undergoes a breathtaking metamorphosis as cold breezes dance among the lush foliage. In this enchanting moment, I seek solace in the divine blend of garam vada pav and bhaji (pakoras). Additionally, relishing a steaming plate of poha or sabu dana vada paired with a cup of chaha (tea) holds a special place in my heart. As a Punekar, food is an integral part of our existence, and discovering incredible eateries to indulge in delightful dishes is a cherished pursuit. Not confined to winters alone, I make time in every season to savour my beloved Misal Pav and thaalipeeth, yet winters seem to infuse these experiences with added layers of flavour.”

Yogesh Tripathi, Daroga Happu Singh in Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “Winter holds a special place in my heart as it invites a delightful feast of my favourite dishes. In Mumbai, every street corner has stalls serving crispy vadas and bhajiyas—potatoes and onions coated in flavorful gram flour batter that is my go-to snack during the season. The experience becomes even more heavenly when paired with soft pav bread. My taste buds go into overdrive whenever I pass these stalls—I cannot resist indulging. While in my hometown in Uttar Pradesh, I never miss an opportunity to devour tamatar and palak chaat, singhara—also known as samosas here—served with tangy tamarind chutney. Other seasonal delicacies like Chura Matar made from fresh green peas, poha (flat rice), Nimona (curry made with green peas), and gajar ka halwa are my all-time favourites.” Shubhangi Atre, aka Angoori Bhabi from Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, shares, “During winter, my top pick for food is Gajar ka halwa—a dessert I consistently crave during the colder months. Whenever I am home, preparing this delightful treat with an assortment of dry fruits is a must for me. The best carrots arrive during wintertime, making the anticipation throughout the year entirely worthwhile. As an Indori, I feel nostalgic for Gajak and Garadu, both of which I used to relish during winter. Garadu, specifically, is a unique snack found solely in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It’s an incredible winter treat comprising fried Garadu cubes seasoned with hot and tangy spices, garnished with coriander, and a dash of lemon juice. Whenever I’m in Indore, indulging in it is a must for me. Wishing everyone a delightful winter season filled with delicious food!
