Indian Matchmaking Season 1 received a bagful of mixed reviews when it hit Netflix in 2020. A few people loved the show while others called it regressive and outdated. What can be said about Season 2?

Firstly, some non-fictional characters like Aparna, Nadia and Pradhyuman from first season who are yet again ‘spouse hunting’. And our very dear Sima Aunty is busy match making for those who haven’t found love. Sima aunty leaves no stone unturned to find an appropriate match, she not only takes advice from family and friends but also a face reader.

Aparna is a treat on screen, she is back to her usual tricks. One of the new contestants, Akshay, loves himself too much and thinks he is God’ s gift to planet Earth. He thinks he is the most eligible bachelor and is looking for ‘chicks.’

Another client is Viral Joshi, an independent, headstrong, career-oriented woman who is making big money and wants it all. Sima aunty tells her she will not get 100 percent of her list of aspirations, there has to be some compromise.

Shital, on the other hand wants to marry real fast as she feels the window to having children is decreasing every year.

Sima aunty in this season, I strongly feel has a lesser screen space as compared to season 1. She seems to move from ‘adjustment and compromise’ to ‘patience and settle for 60-70% of your list’ in this season. I wish there were fewer characters as it says, “too many cooks spoil the broth.”

Here’s hoping all those looking for love, better luck with or without Sima aunty!! May the magic of love find you….soon.
