In a widely circulated video, a group of diners at a restaurant in Brazil mistook several runners for thieves and fled, leading to a stampede-like scene inside the eatery. The event happened on Saturday night in the Brazilian state of Recife as a large group of customers were eating in the restaurant’s open seating area, Cervejaria Alphaiate.
People’s perspectives on the chaotic scenario are varied as a result of the viral nature of the footage and its widespread distribution online. The 33-second-long video, which was posted by a Twitter user, depicts CCTV footage of a group of individuals enjoying their meal until three CrossFit members in the area abruptly sprinted by them. She also signaled for a large number of people to follow her. Following this, a woman who was dining at the establishment suddenly grabbed her bag and began to escape the area. Many other people who were there sensed some danger after her and left their tables to flee in the same route.
However, a little while later, they realized that nothing had actually occurred and that a group of runners had simply been running past the restaurant’s walkway. The restaurant management reportedly stated in a statement that the event was only a “misunderstanding” according to local media.

A day later, the restaurant uploaded a similar video making light of the event, in which the staff members can be seen imitating the runners in the same spot.
