“Jirisan,” a mountaineering action drama, is one of the most anticipated K-drama series to launch in the second half of 2021, with the greatest premiere ratings of any weekend drama in tvN’s history.
The K-pilot drama’s episode was released globally on iQiyi on October 23 and has been steadily building momentum of excitement and good reviews, all thanks to a powerhouse team behind it, and we’re not just talking about its lead stars Jun Ji-hyun and Joo Ji-hoon, two of South Korea’s highest-paid award-winning actors.
“Jirisan” was termed the “golden lineup” since it also included Oh Jung-se (“It’s Okay Not to Be Okay”), Sung Dong-il (“Reply 1988, “Reply 1994”), and Go Min-si (“The Witch”), and was directed by Lee Eung-bok, who is best known for the mega-popular “Descendants of the Sun.”
In addition, for the first original soundtrack of the series, Jin sang the main theme song “Mount Jiri,” which was accompanied by Taeyeon (who did the OST for “Hotel del Luna”), Kim Jong-wan (who provided the OST for “Weightlifting Fairy”), and Gaho (who performed the OST for “Itaewon Class”). These tracks have yet to be made available worldwide via YouTube and other streaming services.
By now, you’ve probably worked out that the series is named after Mount Jiri, which is located in South Korea. Mount Jiri, after Jeju island’s Hallasan peak, is Korea’s second highest mountain.
“Jirisan” promises to immerse the viewer in the epic exploits and hazards of the rangers who climb into the secret and uncharted sections of Mount Jiri, rescuing lost trekkers and survivors, with heart-thumping action scenes coupled with stunning mountain scenery.
Hiking is a hugely popular pastime all over the globe, so it’s no surprise that it’s become a common topic in K-dramas. However, no other K-drama has ever presented such an intense and captivating storey about a mountain journey than “Jirisan.”
Because to their size and strange vistas, Korea is nearly fully covered in mountains, which have acquired the title “blue mountains” due to their spectacular morning colours.
Therefore, if you enjoy trekking and breath-taking-action television shows, you’re in for a real treat.
