Kaalkoot, is an 8-episode series that had my attention from scene 1. The storyline, acting and the twists and turns keep you glued and one keeps waiting for the next scene.
The protagonist of the show, Vijay Varma, has us enthralled. He is an upright police officer who is confused between masculinity and what his own personal values are like. The case that he gets is one of an acid attack victim. It is beautifully shown how the stereotypes in our patriarchal society are a stumbling block to a fair human life.
Gopal Dutt and Yashpal Sharma play the SHO and constable respectively and they are terrific in their parts. The series revolve around solving the case and the many stumbling blocks they face.
The plot is about a girl suffering an acid attack. Struggling for her life, emotionally and physically, she has no say in the investigation. People allege her character and many other women, choose to stay silent. Just because her bag has expensive cosmetics and alcohol, her character is questioned.
Vijay Varma and Shweta Tripathi deliver a stellar performance. Kaalkoot is the poison that came out during the churning of the ocean. As the story progresses, so do the evil practices of our society surface. Just a little mention, I wish the last episode was different.
