Lionsgate has released a teaser for Roland Emmerich’s new action epic Moonfall. After working on successful films such as Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, and 2012, the director is back with Moonfall, a science-fiction premise that follows a group of people who attempt to save Earth when the Moon begins to collide with it. The film also features Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson.
Emmerich’s science fiction films, as usual, lean heavily on the “fiction” part. In the teaser video, an unknown force forces the moon to travel straight for Earth, threatening the world’s annihilation with a series of catastrophic disasters caused by the approaching collision. The fate of the planet is now in the hands of three people, led by Berry’s Jo Fowler, who must embark on an impossible space mission to prevent the moon from collapsing on Earth.
The plot revolves around a NASA executive and former astronaut (Halle Berry) who must join forces with an astronaut from her past (Patrick Wilson) and a conspiracy theorist (John Bradley) to save the planet after the Moon is knocked out of orbit and placed on a collision course with Earth.
Roland Emmerich directed Moonfall also stars Michael Pea, Charlie Plummer, Kelly Yu, Eme Ikwuakor, Carolina Bartczak, and Donald Sutherland, and was co-written by Emmerich, Harald Kloser, and Spenser Cohen. The teaser has exactly showed off the incredible special effects and action sequences which demonstrate that Emmerich is the Michael Bay of science fiction. A good disaster film is always reassuring in its formulaic plot but exciting action, and hopefully next year, Moonfall will provide the viewers with good sought of entertainment. The film will be released in theatres on February 4, 2022.
