Veteran Malayalam actor, screenwriter and director Padmanabhan Balachandran Nair who came to be known as P Balachandra passes away on Monday morning (April 5) at 5 AM, at the age of 62 at his residence at Vaikom. He was undergoing a treatment of meningitis at Amrita Hospital for the past eight months.

The actor is survived by wife Sreelatha and two children Sreekanth Chandran and Parvathy Chandran. 

Born to Padmanabha Pillai and Saraswati Bhai, he was noted for his work in movies like Punaradhivasam, the movie won national award and two state awards. Another film, Kammatipaadam, grabbed four state awards. 

Malayalam

The actor will be remembered for his contribution in Malayalam cinema and Malayalam literature. For his play, ‘Paavam Usman’ he won two major awards, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award and Kerala Professional Nataka Award.

Apart from this, he has scripted many films including Ulladakkam, Pavithram, Agnidevan, Punaradhivasam and Kammatti Paddam. He made his directorial debut in 2012 from the movie Ivan Megharaoopa based on Malayalam poet P. Kunhiraman Nair. 

The last rites will be held today at 3pm at his residence premises at Vaikom.
