Since it enters its sixth year of operation, “hoichoi,” which bills itself as the largest vernacular OTT platform in India, appears to be in good shape to release 25 more originals (three titles from Bangladesh plus 22 titles from India), A-Lister creators, and a slew of never-before-seen business activities and initiatives. Its sole goal is to provide entertainment to its 250 million Bengali clients throughout the world in their own language by producing and curating over 100 original works and housing a library of more than 650 films, including masterpieces, blockbusters, and current theatrical releases.
Although we are a single OTT and cannot truly comment on the numbers, the OTT sector is unquestionably headed in the right direction. The ecosystem is also developing. Since the shutdown, there have been enormous increases in the user base as more and more people realize the platform’s full potential. The OTT business is undoubtedly on the upswing. Considering our situation, hoichoi really began to grow during the lockdown, but August 2022 was our biggest direct subscription month.
We are all Indian OTT platforms, and when it comes to “hoichoi,” we refer to ourselves as a worldwide OTT platform since there are more than 250 million Bengalis living throughout the world, and we provide them high-quality entertainment in their own tongue. Having said that, it should be noted that languages other than Hindi and English are currently acquiring increasing acclaim and popularity. Audiences were exposed to content from many genres and languages during the shutdown, which resulted in a finding that ought to have been made far earlier. Better late than never, though. Good content transcends linguistic and geographic boundaries, and I believe this is the main driver of the expansion of regional OTT platforms.
