In a series of tweets sent Sunday night, Bollywood filmmaker Hansal Mehta expressed his disappointment that his 2013 film ‘Shahid’ was not available on any OTT platform.

“It’s unfortunate that #Shahid isn’t available on any OTT platform. I’m not sure who owns the film’s rights anymore, or where the original version is. It’s a personal tragedy for me for all those who worked so hard against all circumstances to produce this picture. Shahid Azmi’s situation is tragic “he penned.

The film, which starred Rao in the lead role, was critically acclaimed and went on to win several prizes both domestically and internationally, including a National Award.

“It premiered at #TIFF2012, won two national prizes, a slew of other accolades, toured the globe, and has an IMDb rating of 8.2. But there aren’t any takers? “Mehta went on to say more.

‘Shahid’ is a biographical drama based on the life of Shahid Azmi, a former terrorist who went on to become a criminal lawyer. He fights for others who have been falsely convicted of terrorism, but he too suffers an unfair end.

The script for ‘Shahid’ was written by Sameer Gautam Singh, and the editor was Apurva Asrani. The film was produced by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and Sunil Bohra in association with producers Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor under the previous name UTV Spot boy.

In Shahid, actors Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Prabhleen Sandhu, and Baljinder Kaur played pivotal roles.

Rao will be featured in the next film ‘Badhaai Do,’ which also stars actress Bhumi Pednekar.
