The movie, starring Joaquin Pheonix as the ruler Napoleon has struck a chord with the audience. It is a phenomenal movie, especially the parts that show his immense love for his wife.
This is one of the best movies directed by Ridley Scott. The costumes stand out, the war scenes look so real and raw. A movie is as good as the plot development. The career growth of Napoleon is shown well and Vanessa Kirby plays a brilliant wife. Even a man as staunch as him, has such powerful emotions and fails to overcome his wife’s betrayl.
The beauty of the movie lies in the fact that it’s not too serious. Along with the wars, the other part of his life is depicted as well. It is not a gory, war-cry alone or just political dialogue. I like the witty one-liners. The balance of humor and solemnity is well established.
There have been several war movies, Gladiator for one, that has so much blood, but this one has an emotional depth to it as well. The 30-year journey of the former French emperor and his insane drive for power, is well covered in this biopic.
