While on bed rest following two back-to-back operations last year, the actor talks about losing touch with most individuals in the Hindi film business.
Ritabhari Chakraborty, a Bengali performer, made her Hindi cinema debut opposite Kalki Koechlin in the short film Naked (2017). She followed it up with another memorable performance in Pari (2018), in which she co-starred alongside Anushka Sharma. And now, with the short film Broken Frame and an unnamed project, she is preparing to return to the Hindi film business.
“I had offers for other films,” she says, explaining that the pressure to match up to Pari made her picky about projects in Mumbai. I went to my casting agency every time a job came my way, not knowing what I should do next, and was advised that anything I did should not be below [the level] of Pari. As a result, I had to say no to a lot of things.”
Chakraborty admits that she started working on a project but couldn’t finish it, and that a couple others never saw the light of day. “For one assignment, I shed 12 pounds to portray a slum girl.” But then the director was replaced at the last minute, and he brought in a completely new cast,” she explains.
Aside from the Covid-19 outbreak delaying schedules, the actor claims that two back-to-back operations hampered her Hindi film career: “I had an abscess and a fistula surgery.” Between the two surgeries, I had to be admitted to the hospital for a procedure every other day for six months. It took me a few months to regain my sense of self.”
“I was on bed rest for four to five months,” Chakraborty says, who wrote a song last year and just presented one of her screenplays to a film company. I lost track of who I was and what I was doing. I began reconnecting with everyone in Bollywood towards the end of 2021.”
