Rupali Ganguly discussed how her father, Anil Ganguly, sold his home when a film with Dharmendra was postponed. This is what transpired.

Rupali Ganguly has stated that her father, filmmaker Anil Ganguly, was forced to sell his home when a project he was working on with actor Dharmendra was postponed. She added in a new interview that the film took four years to make and that the family suffered a “huge loss” as a result of it. Rupali claimed that it was particularly hard for her father because his ‘USP was creating films quickly.’

In the 1991 film Dushman Devta, Anil Ganguly collaborated with Dharmendra. Dimple Kapadia, Aditya Pancholi, and Sonam Kapoor also appeared in the film. Gulshan Grover, Jankidas, and Shreeram Lagoo also appeared in the film. The film’s music was created by the late artist Bappi Lahiri.

“People used to sell their houses to create movies,” Rupali claimed in an interview with Pinkvilla. When a film fails, you sell the house, which is exactly what happened to us. Dad had collaborated with Dharmendra on a film. Because papa’s USP was producing rapid films, it took three to four years to complete. In 40 days, Saaheb was created. Only the set was present in film city. During vacations, we used to go to the sets after school. We were forced to act as extras in scenes. ‘Let the kids act as extras in the scene.’ However, the family has suffered a significant loss as a result of the four-year delay in the release of this Dharmendra picture. But that’s fine; whatever goes up must also fall down.”

She went on to say, “Because I believe my father battled a lot, we had a really grounded middle-class childhood. He had fled Calcutta and arrived in Bombay, staying on the street. He shared a room with Jagjit Singh and the rest of the group, and they were all battling at the same time. My father has had a lot of difficulties in his life.”

She is now featured in the famous television series Anupamaa. Anupama – Namaste America, the prequel, is slated to be released. The prequel would allow fans to follow Anupamaa (Rupali) through her early years of marriage. From April 25, the 11-episode prequel will be available on Disney+ Hotstar.
