The late Jessica Lall’s sister, Sabrina Lall died on Sunday in Gurugram, Haryana, after a protracted battle with cirrhosis of the liver. Sabrina was still in her early fifties, and have been sick for a long time before she passed away due to organ failure. Sabrina was a leader in the fight for justice for her sister Jessica, who was murdered in 1999 by the son of a politician, Siddharth Vashisht, also known as Manu Sharma.
Today, (August 16), the last rites of Sabrina will take place in afternoon. Ranjith Lall, who is her elder brother spoke to PTI over phone, and said that, “She was not keeping well and had been in and out of hospital. Yesterday, her condition deteriorated at home, and we took her to hospital. Today, in the evening, she passed away. She had cirrhosis of the liver and because of that, many complications arose, and she had a multiple organ failure.”
Sabrina was successful in bringing justice to her sister Jessica the murderer Manu Sharma was put behind the bars with life imprisonment and was in Tihar Jail. Last year in 2018 Sabrina revealed that she has forgiven her sister’s murderer, who had walked out free from the Jail.
Earlier at that time, Sabrina said, “I really do not have anything to say. I am not feeling anything. I feel numb. The only thing I hope and pray to God is that he never thinks of repeating that mistake again.” Jessica Lall was shot by Manu Sharma in a private party at point blank range in 1999, when she refused to serve him drink because it was late midnight. Manu Sharma is the son of Venod Sharma, who is a politician from Haryana.
The 2011 film No One Killed Jessica, starring Rani Mukerjee and Vidya Balan, was inspired on Sabrina’s struggle for justice.
