Sean Penn, a Hollywood celebrity who is making a documentary about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, had to leave the war-torn country on Monday (March 1,2022).
Sean Penn and his two colleagues had to ditch their car and walk kilometers to the Polish border to get out of the country.
On Monday, the Oscar-winning actor-producer turned to Twitter to share a snapshot of himself trudging down the shoulder of a road behind a line of cars stretching into the distance, wearing a backpack and wheeled baggage.
Penn captioned the photo, “After ditching our car on the side of the road, myself and two coworkers walked miles to the Polish border.” “Almost all of the automobiles in this shot are carrying just women and children, with little signs of baggage and a car as their sole valuable property.”
Penn had already issued a statement after attending a news conference in Kiev, where he listened to government leaders discuss the problem.
“I believe Mr. Putin will have made a most dreadful mistake for all of humanity,” Penn stated. “Already a horrific error of lives sacrificed and hearts destroyed, and if he doesn’t relent, I believe Mr. Putin will have made a most horrible mistake for all of humanity.”
“President Zelensky and the people of Ukraine have become historic figures of courage and conviction. Ukraine is the proverbial point of the democratic spear in the democratic embrace of aspirations. If we allow it to fight alone, we will lose our identity as a nation.”
In November 2021, Sean Penn travelled to Ukraine to film a documentary on Russia’s invasion. He began his research for his documentary by meeting with members of the country’s military.
