The Kerela Story, starring Adah Sharma, is set to be released on My 5th. The plot follows the story of a group of women from Kerela who are converted to join Islam and the extremist state of Iraq and Syria.

Following the release of the film’s trailer, a petition was filed at the Supreme Court, on the basis that there was a lot of ‘hate speech’ and ‘audio-visual propaganda’, however the Supreme Court refused the request.

The Kerela Story has stirred a controversy, after the Kerela Congress opposed the claims in the movie and the Kerela CM Pinarayi Vijayan states that the movie is to further the Sangh parivar’s agenda.

Tharoor tweets, “Freedom of expression does not cease to be valuable just because it can be misused. But Keralites have every right to say loud and clear that this is a misrepresentation of our reality.”

He further adds, “It maybe your Kerela story. It is not our Kerala story.” He stated, “If really there were so many ISIS female members from Kerala, that would mean double the number when you count their husbands, whereas even Western intelligence sources say the number of ALL Indians in ISIS does not approach three figures. This gross exaggeration and distortion of the Kerala reality is what I am objecting to.”

The film is directed by Sudipto Sen and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, and stars Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani and Sonia Balani in lead roles.

Despite several controversies, the movie is set to release as freedom of expression is valuable and should not be stopped.
