Fantasy films and television series are becoming increasingly popular because they allow us to escape into a world free of the constraints of reality, complete with larger-than-life characters, improbable heroes, chosen ones, and heroic journeys, among other things.
Conventional wisdom thought for a long time that an accurate adaptation of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” novels was impossible. The 2021 adaptation, however, featuring an excellent ensemble cast and directed by Denis Villeneuve, our generation’s top sci-fi director, was a tremendous triumph. It was packed with character drama, intrigue, spectacular sequences, and tension, leaving even non-fans of science fiction and fantasy speechless.
Amazon Prime is adapting the popular classic “Lord of the Rings” into a series. A youthful Aragorn, Celebrimbor, Galadriel, Elrond, and Sauron are expected to appear in the first season. The splendour of Nmenor, the Misty Mountains, and the elf-capital of Lindon can only be captured in New Zealand. The series will be released next year.
“Shadow and Bone,” a Netflix original series, has taken the globe by storm.
