The famous Squid Game became the first non-English language show to be nominated for the best drama. However, the show lost the award to ‘Succession’ which turned out to be a major hit. Succession won four awards including the Best Drama Series. The director of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk said that he was very disappointed on not winning the award.

However, this show has left its mark and won many top honors at the Emmy Awards. The show has created history-14 nominations and 6 Emmys! Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk won for outstanding director, and the best actor award in a drama series was won by Lee Jung-jae.

Hwang said after receiving the honors, “I truly hope ‘Squid Game’ won’t be the last non-English series to be here at the Emmy’s.”

This series has been Netflix’s biggest launch ever. It cost $21 million to produce and was watched 1.65 billion hours in just 4 weeks. It remained one of the top shows for months.

Lee You-mi won the award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. The other 3 awards are Outstanding Visual Effects in a single episode, Outstanding stunt performance and Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contempary Program. But the director was very keen to win the trophy for best drama series, and for a split second he thought he had won it as well.

Work for Season 2 has begun but one of the biggest troubles he is facing that he killed many popular characters in the first season himself. The show is expected to be shot next year and released in 2024
