Tandav Controversy : Amazon Prime Video Issue An Apology

Tandav the web series streaming on Amazon Prime faced the allegations of hurting religious sentiments.

The web series started streaming on the OTT platform from the 15th January 2021.

Certain scenes from the series drew ire of the audience as they felt it was objectionable and hurting the sentiments.

The cast and crew of Tandav have apologized earlier too.

Following the anger and outrage some scenes were even cut and altered in the web series.

On February 25th, the anticipatory bail plea filed by the head of Amazon Prime Video’s head of India Originals’ Aparna Purohit, was rejected.

And now again Amazon Prime Video has issued a unconditional apology.

The statement read,

"Amazon Prime Video again deeply regrets that viewers considered certain scenes to be objectionable in the recently launched fictional series 'Tandav'.

This was never our intention, and the scenes that were objected to were removed or edited when they were brought to our attention."

"We respect our viewers' diverse beliefs and apologise unconditionally to anyone who felt hurt by these scenes.




Our teams follow company content evaluation processes, which we acknowledge need to be constantly updated to better serve our audiences," the company added.
The streamer also said it will continue to develop entertaining content with partners while “complying with the laws of India and respecting the diversity of culture and beliefs of our audiences”.

In addition, the statement also adds,

"The web series Tandav is a work of fiction and any resemblance to acts and persons and events is purely coincidental.

The cast and crew did not have any intention to offend the sentiments of any individual, caste, community, race, religion or religious beliefs or insult or outrage any institution, political party or person, living or dead.

The cast and crew of Tandav take cognizance of the concerns expressed by the people and unconditionally apologize if it has unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments.”
The web series stars actors Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Sunil Grover, Sarah Jane Dias, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Anup Soni, Dino Morea, Sandhya Mridul, Hiten Tejwani, Kritika Kamra and others.
