Bond 25 was delayed multiple times due to pandemic-related cinema closures, and it finally entered theatres as part of a packed release calendar that featured new Marvel films, the sci-fi thriller Dune, and the monster action blockbuster Godzilla versus Kong. No Time To Die was released in the United States a week after it was released in the United Kingdom, and it is predicted to overtake F9 in the overall worldwide Hollywood box office rankings, which it now leads by barely $12 million.
After the country’s lockdowns were lifted, it was ultimately released in Australia, following releases in Europe and Asia, including China, the world’s largest film market.
Bond’s success reflects the film industry’s overall fortunes, which have begun to improve following worldwide lockdowns.
Cineworld, the world’s second-largest theatre chain, reported that sales in October surpassed pre-pandemic levels, owing to a “outstanding slate of movies.”
There are still a few huge movies coming out this year, including No Way Home, the next Spider-Man picture, Resurrections, the fourth instalment in The Matrix franchise, and Afterlife, a Ghostbusters reboot/sequel.
With producers announcing at the end of No Time To Die that he will be back in the future, speculation is rife as to who would be the next person to don James Bond’s outfit.
The next Bond has been tipped to be Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Rege-Jean Page, but producer Barbara Broccoli told Sky News earlier this year that it might be a while before we find out.
