Three Indian movies that bag honors at the Toronto International Film Festival, 2023.

The TIFF, 2023 came to a close on the 17th September. There were 6 Indian films selected for screening and nearly 300 films were shown day and night along with several musical performances, food and trade outlets.

The platform category award was bagged by ‘Dear Jassi’, directed by Tarsem Singh Dhandwar.  The movie received a cash prize of $20,000 for its brilliant picturization of a love story and its tragic turnarounds. The movie was a unanimous choice for its honest and poignant potrayal of a subject matter that still affects large portions of individuals living under inhumane bitter caste systems.

The Marathi film ‘A Match’, won the Network for the promotion of Asian cinema award. This is a story of arranged marriages and the ordeal it leads to. Set in a small village in Maharashtra and directed by Jayant Somalkar, the story has a strong storyline and is enriching with brilliant acting.

In the Midnight Madness section of the festival, Kill, by Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, a high action movie in a speeding train, got the 2nd place.
