Veteran Kannada actress Prathima Devi breathed her last on Tuesday afternoon (April 6) at her residence in Saraswatipura in Mysore. The actress passed away owing age related ailments and was 88 years of age.   

The late actress is survived by her two children SV Rajendra Singh Babu is a film maker and producer and her daughter Vijayalakshmi Singh is an actress and producer.

The actress changed her name from Mohini to Prathima Devi as she made her debut in film in 1947 with film Krishnaleela, produced by Mahatama Pictures and owned by freedom fighter D. Shankar Singh with whom Prathima devi later got married.

She was seen in the lead role in Jaganmohini (1951), first Kannada film to complete 100 days at theatres. She has acted in over 60 films and was known for her work in films like Krishnaleela, Jaganmohini, Chanchala Kumari, Shivasharane Namiyakka, Mangala Sutra, Shiva Parvathi, Raja Satyavrata, Narada Vijaya and Rama Shama Bhama among others.  In 2001-02, the actress was awarded with Dr. Rajkumar Lifetime Achievement Award by Karnataka Government.
