Some people recommend drinking water after a meal, while others advise doing so first. According to Dr. Rekha Radhamony, a specialist in Ayurveda, drinking water should be done either 30 minutes before or 30 minutes after eating a meal.

According to her, whether a person is overweight or skinny is more important than whether they drink 30 minutes before or after eating. Dr. Rekha said, “If the individual is malnourished, exhausted, weak, attempting to gain weight, and looks very thin overall, he/she has to drink after 30 minutes after the meal.”

Dr. Anshu Vatsyayan, a specialist in Ayurveda, asserts that it is best to drink water only after meals rather than before them. “The digestive enzymes become weakened and diluted when water is consumed right before a meal. So, you should drink water 30 minutes after meals, and only in a very little amount, she said.

She continued by saying that not everyone, whether they are skinny or overweight, should drink water at the same time. As each person is unique, according to Ayurveda, “it depends on the individual. The vata, pitta, and kapha doshas’ level of aggravation determines whether you are overweight or skinny.

*Never drink water while eating. “Digestion is considerably hampered by a glass or more of water with a meal, and insulin levels are greatly affected. Simply take a drink of water with your meal if necessary, advised Bakshi.
