Most individuals feel that socialising is beneficial to stress relief and that it should be done on a regular basis. While there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s also a good idea to know how to spend time alone and thoroughly appreciate your own company.

According to Dr. Ruhi Satija, a consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist, “alone time” is important for mental wellness. “Being near other people has its benefits, but it also has its drawbacks. You are concerned about what others think of you, and you change your behaviour to escape rejection and to fit in with the rest of the group,” she explains.

There is a distinction between ‘loneliness’ and ‘being alone,’ according to the doctor. She claims that loneliness is linked to negativity and a sense of being left out. “On the other hand, being alone allows you to feel more at ease in your own skin. When you’re by yourself, you can make choices without outside influences. And that will assist you in gaining a better understanding of who you are as a person.”

The doctor goes on to explain the distinction between asocial and antisocial behaviour. “Avoiding social interaction may be harmful to one’s mental health; it can be a symptom of anxiety or depression, whereas being unsociable (preferring alone time because you love it) can be beneficial.”

Some things you can accomplish on your own include:

* Reduce irrational consumption. It’s OK to be informed of current happenings, but being addicted to the news is a sure-fire method to depress your attitude.

* Consider what you love doing in your spare time, your favourite meals, and whether or not you truly enjoy watching Netflix.

* Take the effort to cultivate great relationships with individuals that uplift and enrich your life. You may make these crucial relationships a priority in the future.

* Take into consideration acquiring a pet. A fuzzy little buddy can significantly boost your happiness levels.
