With the exception of Esom, much of the main cast from the first season of the famous K-drama Taxi Driver will return to reprise their roles in the second season, according to a statement released by South Korean television network SBS to news site Sports Chosun.
“The key [actors] Lee Je-hoon, Kim Eui-sung, Pyo Ye-jin, Jang Hyuk-jin, and Bae Yoo-ram, who play the five members of the Rainbow Taxi squad, have all joined, and we will formally begin production in the first part of next year,” SBS revealed, as translated by Soompi.
“We are fully prepared to provide a more exciting and in-depth Season 2 to thank you for your affection for Season 1,” the production team stated in a statement released by SBS. “We’ll be returning with an exciting drama where you can see what a caper narrative is really worth. Please demonstrate a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm for Taxi Driver 2.”
In March, Esom’s agency, Artist Company, confirmed her departure from Season 2 of Taxi Driver. A spokeswoman for the corporation said at the time that “due to schedule constraints,” it would be “impossible for her to feature in the upcoming season.” It’s unclear if her role will be written off or replaced in the upcoming season.
Season one of Taxi Driver followed a mystery taxi service headed by a former special forces soldier who administers justice to victims who have been let down by the legal system. The highly anticipated second season was originally announced in July 2021, only two months after the first season’s conclusion.
