Last year, actor Nitu Chandra made her Hollywood debut in the film Never Back Down: Revolt. She was seen in high-octane combat sequences as one of the film’s female leads. She has landed two more Hollywood films while being managed by late actor Irrfan Khan’s team in Los Angeles, USA. She also insists on performing roles that aren’t distorted in their portrayal of Indians.

“I’ve turned down two projects where Indians were not depicted in a nice light,” she says. I don’t want to do anything to smear our reputation. I want three billion Indians around the world to be proud of me.”

Indian actors who have appeared in Hollywood films in recent years have been mocked for their fleeting appearances. “There have been films when they’ve done a two-minute or a five-minute role,” Chandra explains. They were, however, heavily promoted and hyped, and spectators were promised enormous things. And because we Indians are emotional people, we felt dissatisfied after seeing those movies.”

“I’ve been listening to interviews where Indian actors say they’re glad to be a tiny part of a project,” the 37-year-old actor says, “but I was quite proud to be one of the main leads in a mainstream Hollywood film.”

Chandra has purchased a home in Los Angeles and plans to purchase a residence in London, United Kingdom, in order to focus on her profession in the West. “I want to work in every country and in every language.” “I also did a Greek picture (Block 12; 2016) with a lot of action,” she recalls, adding, “I often thought why not go out and seize possibilities all over the world?” We are incredibly powerful as women, and I believe we can achieve everything we set our minds to.”
