The renowned Free Guy and Stranger Things creator and producer Shawn Levy are moving to the Star Wars universe. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that the filmmaker is working on a project for Lucasfilm that he may eventually direct.

When exactly this endeavor could take place is unknown. Levy is on board to helm the forthcoming third Deadpool film for Marvel Studios, but he already has a full schedule. Release day for that movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, is set for November 8, 2024. He and his 21 Laps are producing the last episodes of Stranger Things, and the fifth season is still in the writing stages with no firm release date. The revelation of Levy’s involvement in Star Wars was originally revealed by Deadline.

Levy’s proposal is one of several potential movies that Lucasfilm is developing. Damon Lindelof and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy are each creating their own movies, and Taika Waititi is now working on a feature he will direct. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, is also working as a producer on a Star Wars film. Disney has secured dates in December 2025 and December 2027 for Star Wars films, however, the company hasn’t formally assigned release dates to these projects.

With The Acolyte starting production this week and Andor now streaming, Lucasfilm has a full schedule for streaming TV. The Mandalorian’s third season as well as the Ahsoka spinoff are also forthcoming.

Reynolds played the lead in Levy’s time-traveling family movie The Adam Project, which was released in March. Reynolds created a weapon that resembled a lightsaber.

Levy said at the time to The Hollywood Reporter, “If there was any doubt about my fandom of Star Wars and all things a galaxy far, far away, I’ve dispelled that doubt.” He hastened to add that the object was not a lightsaber owing to legal concerns.
