The unusual experiment, which was first shared on TikTok, quickly became popular on Reddit after a user re-posted it with over 13.7k upvotes.
The popularity of do-it-yourself projects has never been higher. Many people try these DIYs with common household items. A culinary blogger recently decided to make cotton candy using a clothes drier. This is what happened.
Blogger Tammy Louise walks you through the steps of creating cotton candy at home in this almost three-minute video.
She is initially seen loading a large amount of sugar into the front-loading machine’s drum. She replaces the liquid detergent with a can of blueberry soda in the dryer’s drawer. She goes on to claim that the cotton candy will be ready in a matter of minutes and will end up in the dryer’s air vent.
Many Reddit users raised worry over the unusual experiment after u/stuarty published the original TikTok video in the sub-Reddit r/StupidFood, where it became popular with over 13.7k upvotes.
“How long till someone tries this and starts a fire?” “How to damage a dryer in three easy steps,” one user wrote, while others commented.
The DIY was even dubbed “fake” by others.
“Did they simply make it up?” one user wondered.
“Yeah, only it’s a ruse; there’s a gap between her turning the dial and the dryer spinning up. She also never focuses the camera on the interior of the dryer while it spins. Before putting it on, she would have vacuumed out the sugar and poured out the soda, then stuffed some store-bought cotton candy into the lint filter. This is similar to Chan’s method of microwaving people’s iPhones to charge the battery. Another person remarked, “Very great to deceive dumb youngsters into maybe causing a home fire.
” What are your thoughts on the matter?
