On Thursday, (July 29) Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney in Los Angeles Superior Court for not giving her film Black Widow a theatrical outing just like other Marvel films. Due to amid Covid-19 pandemic theaters are still shut in many part of the world, and therefore Disney decided to give the film a theatrical as well as digital release. After her recent move, in which she sued Disney, now as per the reports by Variety, the studios have reacted to Johansson’s claim with an assertion.

Disney uncovered her USD 20 million salary the sum that Scarlett made after the Marvel film’s theatrical release. Her lawsuit was called “sad and distressing” by Disney in the statement. Disney stated, “There is no merit whatsoever to this filing. The lawsuit is especially sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Further, Disney added that the studio has consented with actress’ agreement, and revealed that the digital release of the film will additionally improve her pay.  They also mentioned that Scarlett has procured USD 20 million from the film already.

Other Disney films including Black widow were confirmed to be premiere on streaming platforms as well as in theaters earlier in March.

As per Variety, the legal statement of Scarlett in her lawsuit mentions, the studio “intentionally induced Marvel’s breach of the agreement, without justification, in order to prevent Ms. Johansson from realizing the full benefit of her bargain with Marvel”

As per the reports by the Wall Street Journal, a source close to Scarlett stated that the Disney Plus release has resulted in $50 million in lost bonuses to the actress.

The streaming release has brought many actors lack from the profit that they earned from theatrical release.
