According to the Indian Hearts Lacking Care (IHL Care) survey, Delhi has the greatest proportion of overweight and obese people at 50% and 38%, respectively.

India is sitting on a time bomb of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), which are primarily caused by overweight, obesity, hypertension, and metabolic disorders. Of these, the double trouble of hypertension and obesity has been gradually increasing, resulting in cardiovascular diseases (CVDs).

According to a study conducted by India Health Link (IHL) in partnership with the HEAL Foundation, the frequency of cardiac arrest has grown dramatically among the Indian population, particularly among the youth, and this is attributed to sedentary lifestyles and working habits.

According to the Indian Hearts Lacking Care (IHL Care) research, Delhi has the largest proportion of adults who are 50 percent overweight or 38 percent obese, while 65 percent of persons in Mumbai and 48 percent in Delhi are in the pro CVD risk age range. It further stated that in Bengaluru, 50% of males and 25% of women are at risk of high blood pressure.

According to the study, 53% of Indians between the ages of 26 and 40 are at high risk of CVDs due to the twin problems of obesity and hypertension. A total of 1,461 respondents (77% males, 23% women) from four metro cities – Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Chennai – took part in the survey.

“The study has revealed that there is a substantial association between BMI scores and BP risk, and it is also seen that the higher the BMI scores, the higher the BP risk,” India Health Link (IHL) founder and CEO Dr Satyender Goel stated.
