Kiran Rao last directed Dhobi Ghat and after 13 years, she’s making a comeback with Lapataa Ladies. Recently, this comedy-drama was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival and the film received a standing ovation from the crowd.
The movie features Ravi Kishen, who leads the case of finding two missing brides. Set in the year 2001, set in rural India, it is a comedy of errors. Starring Nitanshi Goel, Praibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan, it is produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Seshpande.
Presented by Jio Studios, the movie will be released on the 5th January, 2024, the script is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami.
The story revolves around two brides who accidentally get separated from their new husbands, in a sleeper train and what follows suit is a comedy of errors. Rao said in an interview, “It was a question of something that came at the right time, and the right material as well. I kind of felt like this had the potential to be really entertaining and have a lot of mass appeal but go deep, and tell a story that can be quite impactful and memorable.”
The movie touches on topics like independence, female empowerment, female friendships, without it being like a sermon. Two women embarking on a journey and the relationships they develop on the way…..
