Warner Bros. is counting on more Ocean’s Eleven movies, this time with Margot Robbie, a studio favorite.

Robbie will feature in and produce a new Ocean’s film directed by Jay Roach, who guided the actress to an Oscar nod for best supporting actress in the 2019 drama Bombshell.

Robbie is producing alongside Tom Ackerley, her LuckyChap production partner. Michelle Graham, Roach’s executive at shingle Delirious Media, is also producing.

The script by Carrie Solomon is being kept under wraps, but it is reported to be an original Ocean’s Eleven set in the 1960s in Europe.

Gary Ross, Olivia Milch, and LuckyChap’s Josey McNamara are executive producers. Village Roadshow is also participating as an executive producer and may co-finance the project. Insiders claim the project is still in the works and hasn’t been greenlit, but production is expected to begin in spring 2023.

Steven Soderbergh directed a fast-talking, stylish A-list heist comedy starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, and others in 2001, which established Warners’ Ocean’s franchise. What started out as a riff and a loose recreation of the 1960 Rat Pack film became an unexpected series. After the original film grossed over $450 million in theatres worldwide, Soderbergh and his team followed up with two more star-studded sequels in 2004 and 2007. Ocean’s 8, a female-centric spinoff starring Sandra Bullock, Helena Bonham Carter, and Rihanna, was released in 2018.

The Ocean’s franchise has become a household name, synonymous with bubbly ensemble heist comedies, and the new movie will allow the company to stack the deck with famous personalities and exotic locations.

Roach is most known for directing the Austin Powers films and the Meet the Parents films, both of which are hilarious. He just finished shooting all eight episodes of Apple TV’s forthcoming comedy High Desert, starring Patricia Arquette and Matt Dillon.

Robbie has stolen moments — if not the entire show — as fan-favorite character Harley Quinn in three Warner Bros. films, the most recent of which is 2021’s The Suicide Squad. She is presently filming Barbie for the studio, in which she will play the iconic doll in a film that she will also produce.
