History was created at the Miss Universe pageant this year. Pakistan participated for the first time in 72 editions. This year the contest was held at the Jose Adolfo Pineda Arena in San Salvador on 19th November.
Erica hails from Karachi and is a Christian. She started her career in modelling in the year 2020 and was covered by the Diva magazine as well. Her decision to participate was received with a mixed response from the masses. In her words, “It feels great to represent Pakistan. But I don’t understand where the backlash is coming from. I think it is the idea that I would be parading in a swimsuit in a room full of men,” that where the criticism is stemming from.
Her experience was wonderful and she stated emphatically, “I am honored and humbled to be the first ever Miss Universe Pakistan and I want to highlight the beauty of Pakistan. We have a beautiful culture that the media is not talking about, Pakistani people are very generous, kind and hospitable. On top of that, I would like everyone to visit my country and try the most sumptuous Pakistani cuisines and explore our enchanting nature, our snow-capped mountains, our greeneries and our progressive landscapes.”
Erica, aged 24, made it to the list of top 20 contestants.
