The actress has joined Batgirl, the Warner Bros. and DC-produced HBO Max film about fan favourite Barbara Gordon. Keaton is anticipated to resume his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman, which he first performed in Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989 and reprised in Batman Returns in 1992.

In addition, Keaton will reprise his role in The Flash, which stars Ezra Miller and will be released in theatres on November 4, 2022.

Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah of Bad Boys for Life are directing Batgirl, which will feature Leslie Grace of In the Heights as Barbara Gordon, the hero and daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon. The film is already in the works, with principal photography taking place in London. Brendan Fraser and J.K. Simmons, reprising their roles as Commissioner Gordon from Justice League, are also in the cast.

When word of Keaton’s return as the Dark Knight in The Flash came in June 2020, The Hollywood Reporter speculated that he would end up like Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a mentor figure who appears in many projects.

In October, during DC FanDome, an online event dedicated to all things DC, the first glimpse at Keaton in the Batsuit was teased. Keaton’s connection with Batman has been tumultuous, with the actor at times distancing himself from the role. He was nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the 2014 film Birdman, in which he played an actor who had previously been in superhero films.

Batgirl has yet to be given a release date.
