The Film Federation of India made an official announcement on Tuesday, naming Pan Nalin’s film, the official India’s entry to the Oscars. Excitedly Pan Nalin tweets, “OMG! What a night this is going to be! Gratitude to Film Federation of India and thankyou FFI jury members. Thankyou for believing in Chhello Show. Now I can breathe again and believe in cinema that entertains, inspires and enlightens!”

This Gujarati drama has captured the hearts of critics and fans and will release in theatres across Gujarat and on select screens across the country on October 14, 2022. Last Film Show (Chhello Show) is set at the cusp of the digital revolution and follows a nine-year-old boy ensnared by magic and science of light and shadow that lies behind the celluloid film projection. It is the story of young Samay’s pursuit of the 35 mm dream. The movie stars Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval and Presh Mehta.

In October 2021, Chhello Show won the Golden Spike at the 66th Valladolid International Film Festival. The movie had its world premiere as the opening film at the Tribeca Film Festival in June last year.

The two films that were being speculated to be India’s entry were ‘The Kahmir Files’ and RRR, with the latter gaining the most traction in the West.

The 95th Academy Awards ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 12, 2023. Wishing this semi-autobiographical fable that is set in Gujarat where Nalin was raised, the very best.
