26th January commemorates the 74th Republic Day of India and it marks the day when the Indian Constitution came into effect in 1950. Besides the wonderful Republic Day parade, here is my list of marvelous movies for those who love their ‘desh.’

  1. SWADES- NETFLIX

This 2004 film directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, is the story of a non-resident Indian who travels back to his motherland in search of a woman who raised him.

  1. RAAZI- AMAZON PRIME VIDEO

Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Raazi’ is the story of a young woman who marries a Pakistani military family in order to gain military information. A fabulous movie.

  1. LAAGAN-NETFLIXDirected by Ashutosh Gowariker, the movie was chosen for the Oscars in 2002. Revolving around cricket, played by villagers to be excused from taxes, Aamir Khan and Gracy Singh rock this movie.
    1. CHAK DE INDIA-AMAZON PRIME VIDEO

    Story of the progress of an Indian women’s hockey team from being amateur’s to winning a championship. Their coach Kabir Khan, a former hockey team captain had to deal with rejection after India lost to Pakistan in a World Cup Match.

    1. RANG DE BASANTI-NETFLIX

    A group of young people are cast in a docudrama about Indian liberation warriors and the experience transforms them into rebels with a cause.

    1. SHERSHAAH -AMAZON PRIME VIDEO

    Captain Vikram Batra, who lost his life in the 1999 Kargil War, is honored in the movie. He received the Param Vir Chakra, which is the highest honor for bravery.
