The commercial turbulence that Bollywood is now experiencing has raised a few eyebrows. Only three Hindi films have so far succeeded at the box office in 2022, with South films dubbed in Hindi reigning supreme. Now, filmmaker Karan Johar has spoken out against the present situation in a recent interview. According to him, Bollywood filmmakers may lack the ‘conviction’ that south Indian director currently possess.

In an interview with a media source, Karan asserted that films like ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ and ‘RRR,’ which have grossed over Rs 1,100 crore globally, had a clarity of vision that Hindi films now lack. In Hindi cinema, the emphasis is on attempting to be too many things at once. He went on to say that if Bollywood had created a film like “KGF 2,” it would have been immediately condemned.

The action movie ‘KGF 2’, directed by Prashant Neel, not only smashed box office records, but also managed to gross more than Rs 400 crore in the Hindi belt alone. It also received overwhelmingly good feedback from practically everyone.

When Karan saw the critiques for ‘KGF,’ he believed that if a film like this had been created in Bollywood, the producers would have been lynched. Surprisingly, everyone was enthralled by the gangster drama, referring to it as a festival, a party, and so on. The acclaimed filmmaker, on the other hand, stated that he adored it. But, at the same time, he wondered, “What if we had done it ourselves?”

He believes that the tendency is reciprocal, as he believes that Bollywood films are desperately attempting to be someone else and, as a result, are all over the place. According to Karan, Hindi filmmakers are attempting to live a double life, which must be prevented.

In the meanwhile, Varun Dhawan, Kiara Advani, Anil Kapoor, and Neetu Kapoor star in Karan Johar’s next production, ‘Jugjugg Jeeyo.’ On June 24, the film will be released in theatres. With ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani,’ starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, and Shabana Azmi, he is also making a comeback as a filmmaker. The film will be released on February 10th, 2020.
