The American entertainment behemoth 20th Century Studios has chosen an up-and-coming Nigerian scriptwriter named Stanley Kalu to develop and helm a Hollywood film based on Matthew Tobin Anderson’s groundbreaking book, “Feed.” Zachary Green will produce Kalu’s debut feature film, a dystopian love story that Kalu will direct.

One of the most popular young adult novels from the last two decades, “Feed,” is getting the cinematic treatment. Filmmaker Kalu, who recently received his degree from the University of Southern California, divides his time between Nigeria and Los Angeles, California.

After winning The Launch’s “Million Dollar Screenplay Competition,” his script “The Obituary of Tunde Johnson” was made into a low-budget drama that had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival in 2019 and opened the 2019 Austin Film Festival. It also won the Audience Award for best debut narrative feature at OutFest 2020.

It was released in theatres and on PVOD in 2021, and it was nominated for an outstanding film limited release at the 2022 GLAAD Media Awards.

Recently, Kalu penned the sci-fi action movie “One Night” in Compton for Paramount Players, which was produced by Kenya Barris.

It takes place in a dystopian future version of America where consumers’ brains are directly connected to the internet. The tale revolves around the developing romance between Violet Durn, a smart girl who has made the decision to attempt to fight the feed, and Titus Gray, an ordinary child on a weekend trip to the moon.

The 2002 book examined concepts including data mining gone wild, consumerism gone awry, and American ruin. It was a nominee for the 2002 National Book Award and won the 2003 Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Fiction.
