We are reminded of another kind of South Korean entertainment that has a sizable following as K-pop music maintains its appeal – K-dramas. They provide a window into Korean society with their superb material, likeable characters, compelling stories, and unique soundtracks. Additionally, fans learn about South Korean cuisine, fashion, and city life in addition to developing a fondness for the show’s stars. Fans are expressing their love for shows and, by extension, the culture through an expanding number of online fan profiles. Three content producers introduce us to the world of K-dramas and discuss their passion for them.

Since she first saw Legends of the Blue Sea in 2017, artist Komal More, 31, has been a fan of K-dramas. All show’s settings are what she finds most interesting. She tells us, entranced by the urban setting, “They’re all so beautiful. I look them up online to see where they are and how the towns and cities are laid up. More incorporates her passion for the settings into her paintings, favoring the television programs that give her a glimpse of South Korean culture. Her Instagram profile is full of show stills, cityscapes, Korean cuisine, and her favorite cartoon characters that she has digitally illustrated.

In order to discuss observations, evaluations, and show ratings, 25-year-old finance professional Jesline D’Souza and 25-year-old marketing and communications professional Salonie Powar launched their podcast in February. The healthy material, masterfully created plotlines, non-toxic romances, and reflection of shifting times and attitudes are what D’Souza credits for her taste. Because the presentations themselves are, as she puts it, “a warm hug,” they arouse interest in the culture and inspire viewers to learn more.

Diana Koli, a K-content maker and video editor, is your go-to person if you ever need tips on K-drama, including which programs to start with, where to watch it, and how to locate it dubbed in a desired language. In order to share her thoughts and evaluations on various programs, the 31-year-old created her Instagram profile last year. People mistakenly believe that there are just romances, but there is a vast variety of content available for everyone, including thrillers, reality and variety programs, murder mysteries, and documentaries, according to Koli. She continues by saying that the storylines for the romances have a build-up that enables the audience to follow the character’s journey. Since the two cultures are similar, she adds, “it’s also highly relatable, making it simple to relate with individuals and their evolutions, as well.
