It cannot be disputed that the monsoon delivers much-needed relief from the oppressive heat. But it’s also true that one’s health, particularly the digestive system, might suffer during the rainy season. As a result, during the monsoon, people are more likely to experience gas, acidity, bloating, nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, cramps, constipation, gastritis, and gut sensitivity disorders.

“Eating heavy foods slows digestion and causes indigestion and acid reflux. Additionally, chaat or juice purchased from the street may give you a stomach illness since the water used to make them may be contaminated with germs, according to Apollo Spectra Delhi’s Dr. Tribhuvan Gulati, an expert on diabetes, thyroid, and metabolic problems.

Diarrhea can also be brought on by consuming water from sources other than sealed bottles and water purifiers. Along with food poisoning, gastroenteritis of the intestines is also prevalent, the specialist continued.

In order to protect your digestive system during the monsoon, the expert provided a list of advice.

  • Choose yoghurt, buttermilk, cheese kefir, kombucha, and soybeans to add probiotics to your diet. Good bacteria included in probiotics operate on the digestive system and increase immunity.
  • Hydration is important: Water may help the body get rid of toxins and maintain a healthy digestive tract.
  • Avoid raw vegetables: Steamed or cooked vegetables are preferable to raw ones since the latter are more likely to contain germs and viruses that can cause gastrointestinal issues.
  • Avoid seafood during the rainy season since eating fish may cause you to have diarrhea due to the greater likelihood of polluted water.
  • It goes without saying that leafy green veggies provide all the essential nutrients, therefore avoid eating them. However, they are not advised during the rainy season since the moisture and humidity might attract germs to them.
  • In the rainy season, typhoid and other water-borne illnesses are also highly prevalent. Therefore, throughout this season, only consume thoroughly cleaned and freshly prepared meals.
