When it comes to the Indian music entertainment industry readers, there’s absolutely no element of doubt over the fact that Shahid Mallya is one of the most credible around. Over the years, the talented singer has pushed the envelope and has put his best foot forward to become a recognised and loved music personality and no wonder, we love all his creations. Off-late, the talented artiste has been in the limelight for his beautiful track ‘Kudmayi’ from Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani for which he even earned a Filmfare nomination and soon after that, he set a new record by officially becoming the first singer whose song has become the main theme of the movie. Yes, that’s right and here, we are talking about the song ‘Dil Khona’ from the upcoming movie ‘Tera Kya Hoga Lovely’.

From the time when Shahid started his music career to now, a lot of things have changed in the industry. The scenario around 90s and 2000s was different and the scenario now is quite different. On being asked to comment about what he feels about the changing trends in the music industry, Shahid shares and we quote,

“Well, a lot has truly changed and why not? Change is truly the only constant in life. Just like how the music industry in the 90s and 2000s were different from what we heard in the 70s and 80s, it’s only natural that things have changed. One significant change that I find and observe is the duration of the tracks. Given the fact that the retention span of the audience has reduced to a great extent, we are now having shorter duration of tracks. Also, ever since the rap culture and EDM scenario exploded in the country, there’s a lot of demand for that kind of music as well. Of course, no one can take away the beauty of soulful and soothing music which has its own melancholy and beauty. However, rap and EDM is now an inevitable part of the music space in the industry. Also, one thing I observe as a singer is that the amount of time people used to practice singing has reduced significantly. The times when I started training, a lot was dependent on ‘riyaz’ since that formed the basic foundation of our training for our vocals. Today, there’s a heavy dependency on autotune due to which even non-singers can be turned into singers. I am completely in for technology and autotune is a great way to enhance the quality of music and the voice. When we have technology to make things better, we must use it. However, if you are only dependent on technology and not making your base strong, then there’s a problem and I feel that the zone needs to be reflected upon.”

Well, kudos to Shahid Mallya for speaking his heart out and sharing his valuable insights on an important topic like this. Here’s hoping that the talented and versatile singer gets success in anything and everything that he attempts going forward in his career. Stay tuned for more updates.
