Like Monday blues, some of us get winter blues. It’s cold, gets dark early, not much activity, there’s a certain gloom that sets in and food is the savior for most of us.

We all tend to eat more, drink less water and the craving for sweets is at a all time high. I read a post on Instagram that stated, “In winters, the metabolism speeds up. Your body burns more calories to balance the temperature in winter. All you need to do is, remain active and eat mindfully to make winter the best time to lose weight.”

Here are some tips you should be mindful of.

  1. Start your day with a detox drink

Detox water is a boon for the body. It pushes the toxins away and kick starts the metabolism. You can boil some herbs/ spices, strain it and sip it.

  1. DO NOT SKIP BREAKFAST

As the day progresses, the metabolism of the body slows down. Ensure you eat in the mornings and it better be a wholesome meal, not processed foods.

  1. DRINK LOTS OF WATER

Pooja Makhija a renowned dietician believes, “Drink water and 80% of your job is done.” Though the thirst is reduced, yet don’t forget to sip that water often.

  1. RESTRICT ALCOHOL

Excess alcohol is empty calories and it disrupts sleep. Though winter season is the harbinger of parties and fun, yet be mindful of the binge eating and drinking.

  1. WINTER SUPERFOODS

Include nuts, fruits, gur, dry-fruits in your diet. They keep you warm and fortified for the cold.

  1. MOVE/ EXERCISE

Laziness sets in, but don’t fall prey to that instinct. Do a little yoga, be active and exercise even if only for 30 minutes.

Winters can be fun, just be mindful of your food and fun.
