The biggest fashion night of the year, the Met Gala, had a fashion bonanza and we saw some stunning outfits. Among the best dressed celebrities, one person who stood out was Mona Patel.
She made her debut wearing a nude floor grazing gown, with an intricate butterfly shaped corset and scalloped train of kinetic butterflies that fluttered wings as she moved. Talking to Vogue, she commented, “I wanted my debut look to be something that celebrates my heritage and also combines my love for couture, and when I heard of the theme, Iris Van Herpen seemed like the obvious choice.” Her friend, the kinetic motion artist Casey Curran, made an array of kinetic flower petals that fluttered in slow motion as she walked the Met Gala steps, creating quite an impact!
Born in Vadodara, Gujarat, Mona moved to the US at a young age to study at the Rutgers University and finally settled there in 2003, to build her career. Patel’s brainchild, Couture for Cause, is a non-profit that combines her love for fashion and philanthropy, to support a meaningful cause.
A thorough perfectionist, she got the finest in the field, Law Roach to put together her image. The stylist and Patel herself, came to India, Mumbai to select jewels worthy of her red-carpet debut.
Her make-up stylist, Sidney Jamila, left no stone unturned to make her look like a Diva, with nude make up, darkened brows, mascara laden lashes and a nude lip shade, and she really did stand out that night.
